Dental Bridges in Buderim

Dental bridges at Sunny Dental Buderim fill the gap left by a missing tooth with a fixed, natural-looking restoration anchored to the teeth on either side. No surgery, no implants — just a stable solution that restores your bite and appearance.

How a Dental Bridge Works

A bridge consists of two or more crowns on either side of a gap, with a false tooth — called a pontic — suspended between them. The whole structure is cemented in place and functions like natural teeth.

The Supporting Teeth (Abutments)

The teeth on either side of the gap are prepared by reducing them slightly in size, then fitted with crowns that anchor the bridge. If these teeth already need crowns for other reasons, a bridge can address both needs simultaneously — replacing the missing tooth while restoring the damaged neighbours at the same time.

The False Tooth (Pontic)

The pontic is the artificial tooth that sits where the missing tooth was. It is custom-made to match the size, shape, and colour of your natural teeth. Modern porcelain and zirconia materials produce a natural appearance that is difficult to distinguish from the surrounding teeth.

When a Bridge is Appropriate

A bridge is a well-established option when implants are not suitable — for example, when there is insufficient bone, when medical factors make surgery inadvisable, or when the patient prefers not to undergo a surgical procedure. Bridges are also considered when the teeth adjacent to the gap already require crowns.

Bridges vs Implants: What Your Dentist Will Discuss

Dr Louis and Dr Jeremy will assess your specific situation — bone health, adjacent tooth condition, medical history, and your preferences — before recommending whether a bridge, implant, or another option is most appropriate. Both treatments have their place; the right choice depends on your individual circumstances.

What to Expect

A bridge typically takes two appointments over two to three weeks. Here is what happens at each stage.

1

Assessment and Planning

Your dentist will examine the gap, the supporting teeth, and take X-rays to assess bone health and root condition. You will receive a clear explanation of the proposed bridge, the materials involved, and the full cost — before any work begins.

2

Preparation and Temporary Bridge

At the first treatment appointment, the abutment teeth are prepared under local anaesthetic, impressions or digital scans are taken, and a temporary bridge is fitted to protect the teeth and maintain appearance while the permanent bridge is being made. Sedation is available if needed.

3

Lab Fabrication

The dental laboratory crafts your bridge from the impressions taken at your first visit. This takes approximately two weeks. The lab uses porcelain, zirconia, or a combination to create a restoration that matches the natural colour and contour of your existing teeth.

4

Fitting and Cementing

At your second appointment, the temporary bridge is removed and the permanent bridge is checked for fit, bite, and appearance before being cemented in place. Your dentist will check your bite carefully to ensure the bridge is comfortable and functioning correctly.

Why Sunny Dental Buderim

Serving patients from Buderim Village, Mountain Creek, Sippy Downs, Kuluin, Palmview, and across the Sunshine Coast — with care that veterans and anxious patients specifically recommend.

Ex-Military Precision

Dr Louis (Royal Navy) and Dr Jeremy (Australian Army) bring the precision and discipline of their military backgrounds to every restoration. Bridge work demands exactness at every stage — preparation depth, impression accuracy, fit, and bite adjustment. They do not cut corners.

Sedation with RN On-Site

Bridge preparation involves more than one appointment of significant dental work. If anxiety is a factor, IV sedation is available with a registered nurse monitoring you throughout — something most practices on the Sunshine Coast do not offer.

Health Fund Rebates On the Spot

We use HICAPS so your health fund rebate is applied at the time of your appointment. You only pay the gap. We can also discuss flexible payment arrangements for the out-of-pocket portion.

Same Dentist Throughout

The dentist who assesses you is the one who prepares and fits your bridge. No handoffs between clinicians. Continuity matters — especially when treatment spans multiple appointments over several weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The false tooth in the middle is called a pontic, and the anchoring crowns on either side are called abutments. The bridge is cemented in place and functions like natural teeth.

How is a bridge different from a dental implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post inserted into the jawbone, topped with a crown — it replaces the root as well as the visible tooth. A bridge does not require surgery or bone involvement; it is supported by the adjacent teeth. Implants are generally preferred where bone is sufficient, but bridges are appropriate when implants are not suitable or the adjacent teeth already need crowns.

How long does a dental bridge take?

A bridge typically requires two appointments over about two to three weeks. At the first visit, the supporting teeth are prepared and a temporary bridge is fitted. The permanent bridge is made by a dental lab, then cemented at the second appointment.

How long does a dental bridge last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, a dental bridge can last 10 to 15 years or longer. Factors that affect longevity include how well the area is cleaned, your bite, and whether you grind your teeth. Your dentist can advise on specific care for your bridge.

All dental treatments carry risks and individual outcomes vary. The information on this page is general in nature and does not constitute clinical advice. A consultation with a registered dental practitioner is necessary to assess your individual suitability for treatment.
